Description

Empowering her, Empowering You

Tan Tock Seng Hospital, alongside our partners from the National Healthcare Group - Khoo Teck Puat Hospital and Woodlands Health are honoured to be the chairing organisation for the 2024 National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Together with six participating organisations - Breast Cancer Foundation, Health Promotion Board, Singapore Cancer Society, SingHealth and National University Cancer Institute Singapore. Throughout October, we have organised a series of events and activities to elevate public education and awareness about breast cancer.

Breast cancer affects 1 in 13 women in Singapore, making it likely that many of us know someone who has been impacted. This year, our theme is "Empower Her," focusing on delivering accessible, accurate medical information in a friendly and understandable manner. Our goal is to engage and empower the community through education, fostering better health and social support for those affected.

Central to our campaign is our efforts in prevention and early detection of breast cancer through breast screening. Despite having a breast screening program for over 20 years, uptake rates remain suboptimal, even though the service is accessible. With the implementation of HealthierSG, the government subsidises co-payments for breast screening, and we aim to highlight this benefit. Through education, we aim to remove any barriers to screening. To promote this key message, we have featured the mammobus as the 'face' of our campaign, bringing screening services to women in common and highly accessible areas.

Together, through this month of curated activities, we aim to foster a supportive community that is knowledgeable about breast cancer, its risks, prevention, and how to live with it.
