Known as experts and key leaders in their professional fields, the fantastic four are recognised for their strong contribution in clinical, education and research practice.

 

A/Prof Heng Wee Jin, Senior Consultant

Distinguished Senior Clinician Award 2020

A/Prof Heng Wee Jin, Senior Consultant in Ophthalmology, also concurrently holds the appointments of Head of Cornea Service and Refractive Surgery Service since 2004 and 2007 respectively. Highly respected and a sought-after clinician in his sub-specialty, A/Prof Heng is an internationally recognised specialist in corneal diseases, cataract and refractive surgery and has been invited to speak in major conferences and performed many live demonstration surgeries. He manages complex corneal and refractive surgery cases, and in view of his expertise, has been invited to sit many committees at the national level. A/Prof Heng’s interest and passion in grooming the next generation of ophthalmologists is evident through his involvement in teaching, where he is a mentor to local as well as regional ophthalmologists, conducting local and regional courses as well as organising meetings and workshops.

 

A/Prof Tham Kum Ying, Senior Consultant

Distinguished Senior Clinician Award 2020

A/Prof Tham holds many clinical education portfolios. She is currently appointed as the Education Director for TTSH Pre-Professional Education Office since 2013. She also held the position of Assistant Dean Year 5 Lead for Emergency Medicine, Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKC) and was also the Assistant Chairman, Medical Board (Education) from August 2010 to July 2016. Clinically, A/Prof Tham puts in a conscious effort, despite her heavy involvement in education work, to ensure that she is kept current, providing high quality clinical judgement and procedural skills with a number of national invitations as Emergency Medicine expert. A/Prof Tham constantly strives to further educational advances not only in her Emergency Medicine specialty, but across the entire healthcare spectrum, including Allied Health. As a popular mentor who inspires others she is also highly regarded as a role model from non-clinicians to Senior Consultants as well. Her contributions in clinical and education is seen through the numerous awards she received in the in the past ten years such as the NHG Distinguished Achievement Award in 2018 and National Outstanding Clinician Educator Award (MOH) in 2017.

 

Adj A/Prof Leong Khai Pang, Senior Consultant

Distinguished Senior Clinician Award 2020

Well respected in his realm of work and well versed in both epidemiological, clinical and laboratory based research, Adjunct A/Prof Leong Khai Pang, Senior Consultant in Rheumatology, Allergy and Immunology, has actively geared up the research culture and competency within TTSH and has also built up the discipline of Clinical Immunology/Allergy within his department. While he currently holds the position as Head of Personalized Medicine Service since June 2016,over the past 15 years, he has held various research related portfolios at both hospital and cluster National Healthcare Group (NHG) level. These appointments included Assistant Chairman Medical Board (Research) and Director of Clinical Research Unit from 2005 to 2013, and Clinical Director of Clinical Research and Innovation (CRIO) from 2013 to Jul 2019. In July 2019, he was also given an additional role as the Director, Special Projects (Centre Grant) as well. Through his appointments, he continues to provide vital leadership over research and innovation agenda and developed personalised medicine as a key service capability in TTSH.

 

Adj A/Prof Kong Keng He, Senior Consultant

Distinguished Senior Clinician Award 2020

Adj A/Prof Kong is renowned and well respected for his expertise in rehabilitation both locally and regionally. He is the national lead for stroke rehabilitation and regional leader in spasticity management in neurorehabilitation. He has made significant contributions to build rehabilitation medicine in TTSH, and in areas of education& quality, greatly influencing the design of stroke care in rehabilitation and acute and community phase. He was the first clinical lead in the set-up of stroke rehabilitation service at TTSH Rehab Centre, Neuro-Rehab Unit at National Neuroscience Institute, stroke rehabilitation interest group locally and was also instrumental in helping to set up the Singapore Stroke Registry. Adjunct A/Prof Kong has also made significant contributions in research in rehabilitation, focusing on stroke rehabilitation, the effects of acupuncture on patients with Parkinson’s disease and patients on stroke rehabilitation, consistently securing grants for his researches.
