Once a humble rural estate of rubber plantations and scattered villages, present day Ang Mo Kio has evolved into a bustling town of 161,900 residents with well-developed infrastructure and transport links – making it a popular residential choice for all ages. Despite its urban development, Ang Mo Kio has retained much of its natural environment, and it is not uncommon to see residents exercising or enjoying leisurely strolls in their neighbourhood parks. The availability of such shared spaces helps to promote residents’ well-being and encourage healthier lifestyles.

The Ang Mo Kio subzone has an elderly population (above 65 years old) of 23.6%, which is higher than the Central zone and national average (20.7% and 16.7% respectively). Among the elderly residents, approximately four in ten seniors face difficulties performing functional activities such as seeing, hearing, and ambulating, with some of these seniors living on their own.

Working through the Community-of-Care (CoCs) network, TTSH and its Central Health partners such as AWWA, TOUCH Community Services, AMKFSC Community Services, Thye Hua Kwan Moral Society, and NHG Polyclinic (Ang Mo Kio) have taken steps to look after the health and social needs of vulnerable residents in Ang Mo Kio.

With the recent official launch of Healthier SG, enrolled residents can look forward to receiving greater support from their family doctors who will provide holistic preventive and chronic care management, as well as connecting residents with community health resources. To date, over 40 GP clinics in Ang Mo Kio have committed to Healthier SG by supporting and enabling residents to take responsibility of their own health and work towards better health outcome. As we embark in this new chapter of Singapore’s public healthcare journey, TTSH and Central Health remain dedicated to work with our GP and community partners to build happier and healthier communities for our Central zone residents.
