By Tan Tock Seng Hospital

The Ang Mo Kio, Toa Payoh- Bishan Sub-Zonal Partners’ Network proudly presents a series of Inclusive Dementia-Friendly Communities (IDFC) webinars as part of our efforts to reach out to the well residents, persons with dementia and their caregivers to build local communities where a person with dementia could be understood, respected, supported and engaged as member of an inclusive community.

The series is contributed by AWWA, Alzheimer’s Disease Association, AMKFSC Community Services, Care Corner Seniors Services, Caritas-Singapore, Lien Foundation, Montfort Care, Ren Ci @ Ang Mo Kio, Thye Hua Kwan Moral Charities, TOUCH Community Services and Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

The first IDFC webinar will kick off on 22nd September 2020, hosted by Mr Ivan Loh, Program Administrator from Lien Foundation. He will share the story of Ms Lily Teh, a nurse and caregiver on “How to Speak to Someone with Dementia”.

In Ivan’s own words… I have been involved in dementia-related work for the past 4 years and have had the privilege of learning from many caregivers how skillful communication can make a great difference in their relationships with loved ones whom they are caring for, often resulting in better outcomes. I hope that this session will allow participants to benefit from the collective wisdom of all these “extraordinary people”, who have shown us that love can transcend all caregiving challenges. I am heartened to see TTSH taking the lead in the central region, rolling out similar initiatives and jointly organizing this series of webinars in collaboration with many community partners to support families on this journey.

Stay tuned to an empowering line-up of monthly webinars.

March - June 2021  Look out for webinars!

In view of the current Covid-19 situation, where mass activities cannot take place, this Webinar series will help to raise awareness on dementia-related skills and knowledge. To reinforce sustenance, there are plans to invite participants from this webinar series for weekly group social walks conducted by the partners, when the COVID-19 situation stabilises. The walks will help with frailty and dementia prevention, focusing on exercises, balancing, strength building and stretching.
