Biodata

Adjunct Associate Professor Chong Yew Lam is a Senior Consultant in the Department of Urology at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He holds an Adjunct Associate Professorship at the NTU-Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine and an Adjunct Assistant Professorship at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. Additionally, he serves as an International Editorial Member of the Canadian Journal of Urology, and Chairman of the National Healthcare Group JOINT (Joint Oncology Innovations Taskforce). Previously, he was the Divisional Chairman of Surgery from 2014 to 2024 and Head of the Department of Urology from 2010 to 2018. He also chaired the Chapter of Urologists at the Academy of Medicine, Singapore, from 2017 to 2021.

A/Prof Chong completed his undergraduate medical training at the National University of Singapore in 1995, obtained Membership at the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh in 2001, Masters in Medicine (Surgery) in 2002 and completed Urology specialist training in 2006. From 2007 to 2008, he completed his fellowship training at the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia, USA, under the mentorship of Dr Demetrius H. Bagley and Dr Leonard G. Gomella, subspecialising in Endourology, Advanced Laparoscopic Urologic Surgery and Robot-Assisted Laparoscopic procedures. Upon returning to Singapore in 2008, he was appointed as faculty and Consultant Urologist at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, and helped develop a range of new surgical capabilities at the hospital. This included development of the hospital's inaugural robotic prostatectomy program since Dec 2008, enhancing the role of flexible uretero-renoscopy in upper urinary tract diseases, and other advanced laparoscopic procedures.

​​A/Prof Chong also has an avid interest in training, quality improvement and education, and has organized several training and education programmes at local and regional meetings. A/Prof Chong serves as a faculty of the TTSH Clinical Practice Improvement Programme mentoring other clinicians in the clinical quality improvement process. His current research interests lie in robotic surgery in urology, radiological imaging in urology and prostate disease.
