Biodata

Dr John Kan is an Associate Consultant with the National Healthcare Group Eye Institute (NHGEI) at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Dr Kan completed his undergraduate medical training and graduated with honours from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom. He received his postgraduate specialty Ophthalmology training under the ACGME-I (American Council of Graduate Medical Education -International) accredited National Healthcare Group Ophthalmology Residency Program. He was awarded the Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology) in 2022 and successfully completed the Ophthalmology Specialist Exit Examination in 2024, clinching the gold medal for being the best candidate in Cataract Surgery and Comprehensive Ophthalmology. He became a fellow of both the Academy of Medicine (Singapore) and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (United Kingdom) in the same year.

During his residency, he undertook leadership roles as Chief Resident and Chief Senior Resident and received the NHGEI Outstanding Resident Award in 2021. He served as a member of the NHG Residents’ Council from 2022 to 2023 and was subsequently selected for and completed the Singapore Chief Residency Program in 2023. He is also involved in community service and has participated in various projects locally and in the region.

Dr Kan is active in research and has published in multiple peer reviewed ophthalmology journals and presented his work at international conferences. He also has a keen interest in teaching and is currently a clinical tutor with both the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University of Singapore.

His areas of clinical interest include Cataract, Implant & Anterior Segment Surgery and General Ophthalmology.
