Assistant Professor Thiruchelvam Jegathesan is a Consultant in the Department of Urology. He graduated from the National University of Singapore in 2007 and went on to obtain membership with the Royal College of Surgeons, Glasgow in 2011. He completed his residency training in the National Healthcare Group cluster before obtaining his consultancy post in TTSH.

Asst Professor Jega has special interests in BPH and Endourology. He completed his fellowship in Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge, United Kingdom with Dr Tevita Aho who is a world-renowned surgeon in the treatment of BPH and laser enucleation of the prostate.

Since returning post fellowship in 2023, Asst Professor Jega has set up the BPH laser enucleation(HoLEP) service in TTSH and has completed more than 100 cases of laser enucleation of the prostate using the Moses Holmium laser and more recently the latest pulsed Thulium-YAG(Thulio) laser as well as the Cyber Ho Magneto Holmium laser.

He has also performed more than 150 cases of Greenlight laser photovaporisation(PVP) of the prostate. His patients have benefitted from a shortened hospital stay and the bulk of fit patients are able to go home the same day due to the minimal bleeding associated with this procedure. Tan Tock Seng Hospital remains the only Government Hospital with this service. Dr Jega also leads the hospital service in MISTs(minimally invasive surgical therapies) for the prostate such as Rezum, Urolift and iTind which benefits younger sexually active men with BPH. He also leads the BPH pathway programme in TTSH and is the chairman of the Urology Clinic management committee.

Asst Professor Jega is involve​d in the education of medical postgraduates and undergraduates in Singapore. He is currently an Assistant Professor with the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine and is the Principal Lead for Urology helping to prepare the curriculum and exams for LKC students. He is also a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and part of the residency programme core faculty involved in the training of the next generation of Urologists. He was awarded NHG teaching awards in 2017 and 2023 for his contribution to the teaching of medical students.
