Biodata

Dr Wayne Yap is a Consultant in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, with subspecialty training in Spine Surgery.

He obtained his basic medical degree from the National University of Singapore. Over the course of his training, he has received the following postgraduate qualifications: Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MRCS), Masters of Medicine in Orthopaedic Surgery (NUS) and Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCSed Ortho). He was awarded the MOH Health Manpower Development Programme award in 2021 for further training in the field of Spine Surgery. He completed his postgraduate Spine surgery fellowship in the United Kingdom based at two world renowned institutions, the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital Stanmore and the Cleveland Clinic, London. During this time, he had the opportunity to operate and advance his skills with the top adult spinal deformity surgeons in Europe where he advanced his skills in Robotics and Minimally invasive thoracolumbar surgery, scoliosis surgery and spinal Tumour Surgery.

He sees a wide range of spinal conditions from traumatic injuries to degenerative spine conditions, with special focus on minimally invasive spinal surgery, as well as complex deformity surgery. Building upon his specialized fellowship training in Robotics and Minimally invasive spine surgery, he believes that embracing technology and the latest advances in the field of spine surgery would translate to improved patient outcomes and better patient care. He is an active member of the spine community here in Singapore, with memberships in the Singapore Spine Society as well as AO Spine.

Dr Wayne is passionate about teaching and mentoring the future generation of Spine Surgeons. He is currently a senior clinical lecturer with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, (National University of Singapore), and a clinical teacher for the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (NTU-Imperial College). He has been appointed by Ministry of Health (MOH) to serve in specialized spine workgroups that work toward improving patient care. He is also part of the core faculty for the National Healthcare Group Orthopaedic Surgery residency training program. In recognition for his contributions to clinical work and teaching, he has been awarded the TTSH Top 10 Teacher awards (Surgery) in consecutive years (2021 & 2022) and was also awarded the TTSH “Exceptional Stars” Award in 2021 for outstanding patient care.
