Biodata

Dr Vivien Yip is the Head, Glaucoma Service and Senior Consultant with the National Healthcare Group Eye Institute @ Tan Tock Seng Hospital. She is also the Head of Comprehensive Eye Care services.

Dr Yip completed her undergraduate medical training at St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London School of Medicine and Dentistry, United Kingdom in 2006, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. Subsequently, she earned her Masters of Medicine in Ophthalmology in 2012, and successfully completed her specialist Ophthalmology training in 2016. She is also a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine (Singapore).

During her Ophthalmology training, she was appointed chief medical officer and chief registrar in 2009 and 2016 respectively. Dr Yip completed her glaucoma fellowship with the National Healthcare Group Eye Institute @ Tan Tock Seng Hospital from 2017-2019. During her training, Dr Yip was privileged to observe and learn Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS) from Professor Ike Ahmed at Prism Eye Institute and Trillium Health Partners in Toronto, Canada. She was subsequently awarded the Ministry of Health and Manpower Development award in 2020 to pursue a second fellowship in Glaucoma and Virtual Ophthalmology at St Thomas’ Hospital in London, United Kingdom.

Dr Yip is instrumental in establishing Optometrists as Primary Eye Care providers and have spear-headed Primary Eye Care services in the community as well as The Virtual Ophthalmology Service (TVOS) at the National Healthcare Group Eye Institute. The team that she led won the National Healthcare Group team recognition Gold and Silver award for Community Eye Clinic Service and TVOS, respectively. She was also award the Distinguished Service Award in the Eye and Vision Health Awards ceremony in 2024.

In the area of Ophthalmic research, Dr Yip has presented and published in numerous conferences and journals both locally and internationally. She is currently involved in Glaucoma and Primary Eye Care research and is a co-investigator in several research grants.
