22 August 2024

Travellers’ Health Vaccination Clinic (THVC) does not offer mpox vaccination. In line with international recommendations, population-wide vaccination and vaccination of general travellers is not currently recommended.

Travellers, especially to countries affected by mpox, should take precautions including avoiding casual sex, avoiding touching skin lesions of infected persons, and avoiding consumption of bush meat.

Travellers should seek immediate medical attention if they develop symptoms such as rash or fever within 21 days of their return. They should inform their doctor of their travel and exposure history.

For mpox related queries, please check Ministry of Health or askgov websites. For further enquiries, please contact MOH general line at 6325 9220.

Overview

Vaccination uses your body's immune system to recognise and fight specific infections. Certain vaccines are recommended because they reduce the risk of getting sick and spreading disease to vulnerable groups like children and the elderly.

At Travellers Health and Vaccination Clinic (THVC), our team of doctors and nurses will advise you on your vaccination needs and suitability to receive the recommended vaccines, depending on your age, health conditions, destination and occupation. The clinic also offers a comprehensive range of vaccinations and immunisations for the general well-being of individuals, and travellers.  We also assist with statutory health checks that require vaccination advice.

Please note that consultation and vaccination at Travellers’ Health & Vaccination Clinic are strictly by appointment only.

List of Services

Vaccination requirements may vary in different countries. We encourage you to discuss with our doctors and get advice regarding recommended or required vaccinations for your destination and for the activities you have planned.

You should try to schedule your vaccination appointment four to six weeks before your departure date. Most vaccines take 1-2 weeks to become effective.  Some vaccines must be given in a 2-3 dose series, with full protection only after completing all doses.

Please bring along all available vaccination records, and information about your medical conditions and medications to your THVC appointment, and show them to the doctor or nurse you are consulting with.

Our travel services include, but not limited to:

  • Pre-travel evaluations for business trips, holiday and leisure travel, volunteer programs, mission groups, pilgrimages and disaster relief teams.
  • Prevention and treatment advice for malaria and altitude illness. Medications may need to be prescribed by the doctor.
  • Post-travel screening and treatment for travel related illnesses such as animal bites, parasitic infections, malaria, diarrhoea and other infections.

Certain occupations are associated with an increased risk of exposure to vaccine-preventable infections. Employees who are infected could pass on the diseases to others. Vaccination can protect employees and keep workplaces free of vaccine-preventable infections such as measles and influenza.

Before getting vaccinated, our team of doctors and nurses will assess the individual's relevant vaccination history, confirming the validity of certificates as appropriate. For employees with no vaccine records, a blood test may be carried out to check their immunity status. We will also provide patient reminder systems to ensure employees receive all their vaccination series when vaccination schedules are still ongoing.

The following occupations should consider the need for vaccination include, but not limited to:

  • Healthcare workers who have contact with patients or work in clinical areas of hospitals
  • Laboratory personnel who perform cultures or handle certain pathogens
