Biodata

Dr Nicola Gan is a Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist and is currently the Head of the Vitreo-Retina Service and Head of the Eye PACE service at the National Healthcare Group Eye Institute @ Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Dr Gan completed her undergraduate medical training at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore in 2007, where she graduated with Bachelor degrees in Medicine and Surgery and was placed on the Dean's list, with Distinctions in Medicine and Biochemistry. She underwent postgraduate training in Ophthalmology and was awarded Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology) from the National University of Singapore in 2011 and subsequently elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (London) in 2014. She completed her local Ophthalmology specialist exit exam in 2014 and was awarded Gold Medals for being the Best Candidate in Retina, Uveitis, Glaucoma, and Paediatric Ophthalmology. She was also a recipient of the Ministry of Health Training Scholarship in 2009 and completed her overseas fellowship training in Surgical and Medical Retina at the University of Toronto from 2015-2016. Dr Gan is currently a member of the American Society of Retinal Specialists. 

Dr Gan specializes in Vitreo-Retina and Cataract surgeries. She has many years of experience in vitrectomy surgeries for retinal detachments,  pathological myopia-related diseases, diabetic eye disease, macular surgeries and ocular trauma. Dr Gan also runs a busy Medical Retina practice, which includes more commonly, the treatment of age-related macular degeneration and diabetic eye diseases with intravitreal injections and laser photocoagulation. 

Dr Gan is active in research and has presented at multiple local and international Ophthalmology conferences. She was awarded the NHG Eye Institute Allergan research prize for best paper presentation (Junior Category) in 2008 and 2010, the NHG Eye Institute Award of Distinction for best paper presentation (Intermediate category) in 2013, and the Singapore Eye Foundation Award for 1st runner up paper presentation (Senior Category) in 2014.

Dr Gan is active in both Ophthalmology residency and undergraduate medical education. She is a Core Faculty member of the NHG Ophthalmology Residency Program and has been appointed as a Senior Clinical Lecturer with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS and Adjunct Senior Lecturer with Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, NTU. She was a student mentor to the pioneer batch of students at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine in 2013-2014 and received the NHG Teaching Award for Junior Clinicians in 2013.
