Biodata

Dr T Jegathesan is a Singapore trained Orthopaedic Surgeon. He currently serves as a Consultant in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. His practice is centered around sports surgery, performing minimally invasive hip, knee and shoulder surgery (key hole), with an aim to restore patient’s function to their active pre-injury state. His clinical interests are hip and knee preservation surgery, encompassing hip impingement, labral tears and instability, knee malalignment surgery and surgeries for knee ligament, meniscus and cartilage injury.

Dr T Jegathesan graduated from National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2012. Thereafter, he entered the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency program with National Healthcare Group (NHG), graduating from it successfully in 2020. He is actively involved in teaching undergraduate students and also at the residency level, being appointed clinical lecturer of Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS and clinical block lead for Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, NTU, as well as being on the core faculty for the NHG Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program. He has been awarded numerous teaching awards by both Tan Tock Seng Hospital as well as both the above local universities and continues to put education at the forefront of his endeavor. He has also served as the Chief Resident of the National Healthcare Group Residency program from 2018/2019.

Dr T Jegathesan was awarded the prestigious Health Manpower Development Plan award from the Ministry of Health for dual sub-speciality training in Europe. He completed a fellowship program for hip arthroscopy training under renowned world expert Dr Luis Perez Carro in Santander, Spain in 2023. Under his guidance and mentorship, he learnt both the basics as well as advanced aspects of hip arthroscopy. Various surgeries performed included hip labrum repair and reconstruction, femoral and acetabulum osteoplasty, surgery for tendon impingement and tendon injuries, as well as revision surgeries for the above cases. Following this, he completed a subsequent fellowship program with the renowned Sports Orthopaedic Department at Klinikum Rechts der Isar, Technical University of Munich in Germany. He had the opportunity to learn crucial aspects of various sports surgeries from Professor Sebastian Siebenlist and his esteemed team, and to immerse in the excellent academic and research culture that prevailed through the department. The focus of the second fellowship was in knee malalignment surgery, as well as sports knee surgery that was performed on injuries of the ligaments, meniscus and cartilage of the knee.

Aside from clinical work, Dr T Jegathesan is also active in clinical research, to keep abreast of the latest and leading surgical techniques and evidence-based medicine. He has published in both local and international peer-reviewed journals and has also presented his work at both regional and international conferences. He still continues to actively participate in international scientific conferences and is a member of the Singapore Orthopaedic Association (SOA), and the Singapore Knee Preservation Society (SKPS).
