Dr. Wong Kar Yong is a General Surgeon currently practising in Tan Tock Seng Hospital. His specialty interest is in colorectal cancer surgery, especially with the use of minimal invasive and robotic surgery.

Dr. Wong graduated from University of Glasgow and completed his housemanship training in the United Kingdom. He is fully registered with the General Medical Council of United Kingdom. He then completed his basic surgical training in England and was admitted as a Member of the Royal College of Glasgow of Physicians and Surgeons in 2006. He continued the remaining of his surgical training in Singapore after decided to serve and care for his patients closer to home. He obtained his Master of Medicine in Surgery (MMed) from National University Hospital in 2013 and in the same year, he completed his advanced surgical training in General Surgery and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He has since registered as a specialist by the Singapore Specialist Accreditation Board.

Recognising his interest and contribution in the field of minimal invasive colorectal surgery and a growing incidence of colorectal cancer in Singapore, Dr. Wong was awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan Award by Ministry of Health in 2015 to further his training in Yonsei University Hospital, a world renowned center in robotic colorectal surgery.

Dr. Wong specialises in minimal invasive colorectal cancer surgery. Majority of his colorectal surgeries were performed either via laparoscopically (key-hole) or robotically. He is proficient in advanced colorectal procedures such as extended lymph node dissection surgery in advanced colorectal cancer, transanal endoscopic microsurgery and colonic stenting. Besides cancer surgery, Dr. Wong is also experienced in management of benign coloproctology diseases and regularly performs surgery for haemorrhoids, anal fistula, anal fissure, perianal abscess etc. He is also an experienced endoscopist and has performed large numbers of therapeutic gastroscopy and colonoscopy on patients with good outcome.

Dr. Wong is currently a Senior Consultant Surgeon at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He is also a clinical senior lecturer for Yong Yoo Lin School of Medicine, National University Hospital Singapore and clinical lecturer for Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
