Biodata

Dr Wong’s career spans various leadership roles in medical education, clinical training and administration. He is currently a Family Physician, Senior Consultant with Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) and Associate Professor (Clinical Practice) at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine), Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

He received his MBBS from National University of Singapore (NUS, 1995), completed his Family Medicine (FM) post-graduate training (MMed FM, 2001) and was appointed Head & Senior Family Physician of Choa Chu Kang Polyclinic, National Healthcare Group (NHG) Polyclinics (2004-06). In 2005, he was awarded the MOH-NHG Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) Award for further training at Monash University, Melbourne. He joined NUS as an Assistant Professor and Undergraduate FM Education Director (2006-11) and Consultant Family Physician (NUHS, 2009-11). He also obtained his Master of Public Health (NUS,2009). In 2011, he joined TTSH & LKCMedicine and was appointed Assistant Dean (Family Medicine & Year 4, 2011-21). He currently leads the module on Clinical Encounters, Long-term Patient Project and is the Course Lead for OSCE (Year 4).

In the area of Health Professions Education, Dr Wong graduated with a MSc in Health Professions Education (MHPEd) from the MGH Institute of Health Professions (2013). He was the Education Director, Pre-Professional Education Office, NHG (2018-24) & Academic Director of NHG College (2018-24). Besides undergraduate teaching, he examines for the Graduate Diploma in FM & the Master of Medicine(FM) and has served as external examiner for the NUS MBBS Programme. He is active in faculty development through NHG College and College of Family Physicians workshops and courses. His other education roles are as Senior Consultant, Professional Training & Assessment Standards Division, Ministry of Health and as Education Consultant to the College of Family Physician Singapore. At the national level, he currently serves as Co-chair of the National Medical Review Committee and as member of the Joint Committee of Family Medicine Singapore. At the institution level, he chairs the NTU University Health Board and sits on various clinical committees in NHG and TTSH.

Dr Wong’s research interest covers both Family Medicine and Medical Education. He has secured multiple grants, published articles in peer-reviewed journals and actively participates in both local and international conferences with oral and poster presentations. His contributions to the field have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Nanyang Education Award (School), NTU (2016), Education Leader Award, NHG (2019), Mentor Award, NTU (2020) and NHG Quality Day Merit Award (2021).
