Biodata

Adjunct Associate Professor Leonard Yip is the Senior Consultant and Head, Department of Ophthalmology @ NHG Eye Institute @ TTSH.  He is also the Deputy Medical Director at the NHG Eye Institute.  

Dr. Yip earned his medical degree from the University of Sheffield, UK, in 1995. Later, he obtained his Master's degree in Medicine (Ophthalmology) from the National University of Singapore. His affiliations include Fellowships with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (UK), and the Academy of Medicine Singapore. He is also a member of the American Glaucoma Society.

Thanks to the Ministry of Health Human Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) scholarship, Dr. Yip furthered his expertise by completing a Glaucoma Fellowship at the University of British Columbia, Canada. He was mentored by Professor Frederick Mikelberg and the esteemed faculty of the Eye Care Centre in Vancouver.

He also serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor at  the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University, and as Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. His clinical expertise encompasses general eye diseases and specialized procedures in cataract surgery, such as the application of toric and multifocal intraocular lenses. In the realm of glaucoma, he specializes in treatments like laser peripheral iridotomy, selective laser trabeculoplasty, trabeculectomy, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, aqueous shunt surgery, goniosynechiolysis, and transcleral cyclophotocoagulation.

Beyond his clinical commitments, Dr. Yip is an active contributor to clinical research. He has been published extensively in international ophthalmology journals, with his research primarily focusing on glaucoma, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, visual fields, optic nerve head, and retinal nerve fibre layer imaging.​
