Synopsis
Patients with chronic lung diseases often present with significant respiratory symptoms such as dyspnea, cough and secretion production. These symptoms are often accompanied with musculoskeletal dysfunctions and decreased exercise tolerance.
Physiotherapy plays a critical role in managing this group of patients through airway clearance regime and exercise therapy, especially after an acute exacerbation. Therefore, it is imperative that physiotherapists acquire the necessary medical knowledge of the various chronic lung diseases, gain appropriate clinical skills and develop critical thinking ability to manage these patients effectively. This course will provide participants with a systematic approach to attain the necessary physiological knowledge, scientific evidence and clinical skills required to develop the core competencies needed for respiratory and exercise management in patients with chronic lung diseases.
Participants will be given an opportunity to apply the core competencies through an interactive and thought-provoking case discussion segment. They will be guided in their clinical problem-solving ability and management of these patients, thereby allowing them to consolidate the information learnt and apply in a clinical setting.
