Fight Frailty! Preventing, Detecting and Managing Frailty in Older Adults

Synopsis

Frailty is a dynamic and evolving state of health which involves the gradual loss of physiological in-built reserves leading to losses in one or more domains of function (Ministry of Health, 2023). While increasingly prevalent amongst the local ageing population, this poses a timely opportunity for healthcare workers, especially physiotherapists, to review and enhance efforts to prevent, detect and manage frailty. The National Frailty Policy (NFP) introduced by MOH in 2023 sets a precedence for physiotherapists to take a more proactive stance towards increasing awareness on frailty, as well as improving identification and management of this geriatric syndrome amongst seniors.
