Overview
Since 2006, we have introduced several initiatives with the aim of improving the delivery of care to elderly patients in the ED:
- Risk stratification
- Geriatric screening
- Falls evaluation
- Bladder protocol
These initiatives have been shown to improve outcomes and reduce ED re-attendances, hospitalisations, and functional decline.
We currently have 4 GEM subspecialist doctors, and have trained more than 50 GEM nurses in our ED. In the tabs above, we describe a GEM fellowship for doctors and a biannual (January & July) GEM seminar for nurses, open for application.
