The Department of Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery specialises in the management and treatment of all disorders and injuries of the upper limb that affect the function of the hand.

​Overview

In Tan Tock Seng Hospital, our Hand Specialists are well versed in the diagnosis and treatment of various traumatic and non-traumatic upper limb conditions.

We provide comprehensive management of all upper limb injuries and diseases through the following services:

  • 24-hour Accident & Emergency
  • Specialist Outpatient Clinics
  • Ambulatory Surgery

Our service is complemented by an expert team of Occupational Therapists to ensure an optimal outcome and help patients resume daily activities. Our Occupational Therapists also provide work rehabilitation and ergonomic consultation to facilitate the patients' safe and early return to work.

Our Hand Specialists treat a wide range of acute and chronic conditions of the upper limb, such as:

  • Trauma – fractures and amputations
  • Wrist ligament injuries
  • Trigger finger
  • De Quervain's tenosynovitis
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Cubital tunnel syndrome
  • Nerve compression
  • Brachial plexus injuries
  • Ganglion cysts
  • Tumours
  • Degenerative diseases such as osteoarthritis
  • Inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and gout
  • Repetitive Stress Injuries (RSI)

Our team of Hand Surgeons specialises in managing both acute and chronic hand, wrist and peripheral nerve conditions in the upper limb.

Our core surgical expertise includes:

  • Fracture fixation
  • Wrist arthroscopy
  • Reconstructive surgery
  • Microsurgery
  • Minimally invasive surgery

Reconstructive microsurgery is also performed by our Surgeons in both upper and lower limb injuries. This includes wound resurfacing surgeries to injured lower limbs, reattachment of severed fingers/limbs as well as toe-to-hand transfers for complex injuries.

​In addition to major operating suites, our Hand Surgeons also perform surgical procedures in a dedicated procedure suite located within the Specialist Outpatient Clinic.

The suite provides greater proximity and privacy for patients who require ambulatory surgical procedures.

Our Hand Specialists work closely with our Occupational Therapists to provide comprehensive care for patients undergoing treatment for hand conditions.

Patients undergo a personalised rehabilitation programme to improve their recovery and use of the injured hand to perform daily basic functions such as dressing and eating.

Our Occupational Therapists also provide work rehabilitation and ergonomic consultation to facilitate the patients' safe and early return to work.
