With growing demand for aged care service, Ren Ci added 210 beds in 1999 using seven pavilion wards in Moulmein taken over from Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH). This was the first Ren Ci nursing home, and Ren Ci was renamed Ren Ci Hospital and Medicare Centre to reflect its array of community-based services.
To complement the facilities in Buangkok and Moulmein, Ren Ci Community Hospital at Irrawaddy Road was built with the generous support of donors, the Board of Directors and the Ministry of Health. Ren Ci Hospital began operations in December 2008, and was officially opened in January 2010 by then Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security, Professor S. Jayakumar.
Ren Ci expanded into heartlands with nursing homes in Bukit Batok and Ang Mo Kio. The nursing home at Moulmein shifted to the facility at Ang Mo Kio in 2017, which was the first nursing home built with a cluster household concept.
Ren Ci Community Hospital was the first community hospital to collaborate with a restructured hospital through a Clinical Governance Collaboration Agreement, working closely with TTSH to deliver step-down rehabilitative care services.
Today, Ren Ci Community Hospital provides quality rehabilitative care for patients requiring extended inpatient post-treatment rehabilitation. It is connected to TTSH via a sheltered linkbridge. Ren Ci continues to operate a Chronic Sick Unit, catering to a special group of long-term patients with high care needs, such as those on tracheostomy tubes, as it has done since embarking on its charitable journey in 1994.
The building also houses a Senior Care Centre and Ren Ci Learning Academy. The latter is a training centre which focuses on upskilling the community's capabilities to better care for the elderly. It also explores the innovation and redesign of care to deliver and spread value-based and affordable care in the community care sector.
