Tan Tock Seng Hospital recognizes excellence in nursing practices and is committed to foster our nurses’ growth and development. The professional ladder below reflects the career progression of our nurses.
Besides growing vertically in their career path, nurses could also broaden their experience through our different career tracks. Whether they aspire to gain mastery in clinical practices, management or beyond bedside care, TTSH offers diverse pathways for them to advance their career.
Clinical
Nurses have the opportunities to develop skills in different specialties and settings. We have a clinical exchange and hybrid programme that allows nurses to experience other nursing areas through attachment, cross training, or internal transfer, so that they could identify potential interest or specialty areas for further career development.
Advanced Practice Nursing
We have a group of Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs) with clinical knowledge and skills to diagnose, perform physical assessment, order investigations and prescribe medication in collaboration with doctors. They are currently practising at various disciplines:
Our APNs are empowered to provide holistic care for patients and spearhead evidence-based practices. Structured programmes are in place to nurture and mentor our nurses with passion to develop expertise for extended practice.
Management
The Management track provides opportunities for nurses to lead fellow nurses to achieve care outcomes systematically and effectively. Nurses who pursue this track would be entrusted with the professional and personal development of their team as well as creating constructive working environments for them to reach greater heights.
Education
The Education track provides professional development for nurses who can inspire and equip other nurses to learn and develop their capabilities continuously. Nurses who pursue this track are also instrumental in leading educational initiatives and creating materials for use in Tan Tock Seng Hospital and beyond.
The Education, Learning, Innovation and Training for Excellence (ELITE) spearheads the continuous professional development of our nursing staff, from students to experienced practitioners.
Informatics
Nurses who pursue the Informatics track work at the intersection of nursing science, computer science, information management and analytical sciences to improve patient outcomes and safety. Capitalising on their existing clinical knowledge, they identify areas of improvement in clinical workflows and create new approaches to achieve care outcomes.
Research
Nurses who embarked on the Research track will be mentored by the Nursing Implementation, Translation, and Research Office (NITRO) to lead research studies, cultivate evidence-based initiatives, and apply them into clinical practice. There will also be opportunities to work with internal and external stakeholders to generate new insights into problem statements and translate the knowledge into feasible solutions to improve clinical care and workflow.
Innovation
The Innovation track challenges nurses to get out of their routines and think out of the box. Nurses who pursue this track can look forward to co-developing and testing of innovative solutions in simulated and real environments to address longstanding challenges in clinical practice and work productivity. The Centre of Healthcare Innovation (CHI) and inpatient Smart Ward (Ward 5C) are two exciting playgrounds for prototype testing.
